PROJECT: NYC Flatiron Loft Renovation | Interior Design | Completed in 2025

DESCRIPTION: This full renovation of a two-story loft apartment in Flatiron transforms a raw, industrial shell into a warm and considered home. The existing space carried the classic bones of New York industrial architecture, with exposed steel beams, soaring ceilings, and an open double height living room. The design concept was guided by a single instinct: to introduce softness into a space that had none. Curves worked into the architecture itself, hand finished limewash wall treatments, and the layered contrast of charred pine against pale plaster give the apartment a depth that feels considered rather than curated. The double height living room became the project's most compelling opportunity, anchored by a curved fireplace surround that rises the full twenty feet, its quartzite hearth set low to keep the composition both monumental and warm. A dramatic arch frames the transition into the dining space, where vintage pendants and chairs sourced at the Round Top antique fair sit alongside custom pieces from larger retailers. The kitchen was re-faced rather than gutted, its new charred pine cabinetry and hand selected quartzite countertops bringing the material palette into coherence without the cost of full demolition. At the stairs, a curved wall conceals existing wiring. Behind a charred pine slatted pocket door lies the primary bedroom finished in a deep, atmospheric forest wallcovering the homeowners described as ‘sleeping in a painting’. A custom oak vanity topped in Prime Rib red marble anchors the primary bath, while a powder room wrapped floor to ceiling in deep red zellige tile offers the apartment's most talked about surprise. The second floor also holds a nursery, color washed in mustard and wallpapered in a custom Prospect Park mural.
